the marathon chronicles.
i am now on a running schedule and i love it! i'm 2 weeks into my training.. grandma's marathon june 22, 2013 here i come!
i burn about 500 plus calories when i run 4-5 miles, will be upwards of 1000+ this sunday when i run for 2 hours.. at a time. with no stopping. oh yes, this is what i am willingly doing and i'm looking forward to this run. i think it's a fabulous way to spend 2 hours. i've been brainwashed by fitness and the feeling of health and i like it.
soooooooooo I have all these extra calories to eat on running days and i cherish each and every one of them. thanks to myplate on livestrong.com i keep accurate track of my calories eaten and calories burned by exercise. so i know how many i can eat YUM! i like to eat more than i like to run.
well last night, we had our first marathon related casualty! bacongate!
well last night, we had our first marathon related casualty! bacongate!
al made chicken bacon ranch salads for supper and i came in late from my myofascial release appt just as everyone was starting to eat. then on a whim, al and bert decided to go to play poker and they had to leave lickety split.
so al passed me his big salad he had already put together and said he'll just make another for himself when they got home from cards later. bert gobbled his up right quick. so there i was at supper with just ronnie, and i was able to give her my undivided attention- rare and was good for both of us. we had some tough things to talk about but i oreo cookied it with some fun topics and she pushed through for a win in the non-fit-throwing department! yay!
as i was overcome with hunger i went to check myplate to see how many calories i had left to eat for the night. when i saw my big fat glorious number, i soon forgot all about al's later salad. that calorie count danced in my head and my food goggles were now securely fastened.
i piled on another helping from the bowl of the bacon he had prepared and crumbled lovingly for these monstrous main course salads (one of my favorite meals!). adding up the calories in my head, i loaded another helping of cut up chicken. i squirted that ranch dressing for many seconds without stopping. i relished that salad. oh my god it was GOOD!

after supper as ronnie and i were cleaning up, i baggied the leftover chicken, lettuce... but still, al's 'later salad' notion hadn't returned to my ravenous mind. on the counter, i saw the leftover bacon in the bowl and did some quick calculations and voila i stuck my fingers in and gobbled it right up. happily!
fast forward two hours and i walk in on al rummaging the fridge. i eagerly offer "i put all the fixings in the lower drawer" and he said "ya but i can't find the bacon". OH MY GOD!!! it flashed through my head to blame ronnie. it flashed through my head that I AM A VERY BAD GREEDY WIFE! i told him the story and he didn't believe me' thinking that ronnie must have been the culprit and we got in a fight! fighting isn't really our thing, so it was kind of a big deal.
he was just REALLY looking forward to that salad, and we had no bacon left. it was a good 30 minutes before we were laughing about the whole bacongate and he said bygones.
it's all good now, but holy hell, this was the first bad byproduct of my mary training. i hope my stomach doesn't get me into more hot water with the mister.
